Why Title is Important for SEO, What is the Character limitation?
- A title tag is the main text that describes an online document. It is the second most important on–page SEO element, and appears in three key places: Browsers, search engine results pages i.e., SERPs and external websites (relevancy).
- Relevancy: Creating a descriptive(long tail) Keyword title tag is important for increasing rankings in search engines and makes for a terrific low-effort, high-impact.
- A maximum amount of 70 characters will display in the search results. The engines will show as, "..." to indicate that a title tag has been trimmed.
- The closer to the start of the title tag a keyword is, the more helpful it will be for ranking, and the more likely a user will be to click them in search results.
- Many SEO firms recommend using the brand name at the end of a title tag instead and there is times when this can be a better approach. If a brand is well–known enough to make a difference in click–through rates in search results, the brand name should be first. If the brand is less known or relevant than the keyword, the keyword should be first.
- Browsers: The title tag of any page appears at the top of some Internet browsers. While this can be important for user experience, this location has been noted to receive a relatively small amount of attention from users.
- SERPs: When you use keywords in the title tag, search engines will bold or highlight them in the search results if a user has performed a query including those keywords. This gives the user greater visibility, and generally means you'll get a higher click–through rate.
